I've frequently heard that it's easier for shy or less assertive men to date in Asia. Or that it's easier for foreigners to date in Asia. Based on what I've read about how traditional these cultures are, I have an extremely hard time believing this.

It's really easy for foreigners to date in Japan--especially men. Westerners, especially--the more Aryan, the better (I hate to say it, but it's true)--have a huge 'exotic appeal' to many Japanese, especially in the younger generations.
Though this isn't necessarily true for all, many women of the younger generations have gotten bolder, and it's by and large acceptable for girls to pursue guys. (Many of these same young women bemoan the lack of confident, assertive "knights in shining armor". But they date the shy guys anyways.) So I can imagine it wouldn't be too difficult for a shy guy to date.

And please - no Anime . . . I've seen plenty of those & am entirely up-to-date on animation.

The reason I ask is because ethnically we might be similar, but because of the atmosphere and culture in which we were raised, would any of you find us attractive? I'm assuming some of you have had interactions with Asian Americans, as have I with those who were mostly raised in East Asia. In my past experiences I found it somewhat hard to understand the differences and received quit a culture shock. Have any of you had similar experiences?
